In the wake of Jordan Neely’s chokehold death on the subway earlier this month, the debate over how to solve the city’s mental health crisis has drawn newfound interest.

Fountain House, a national mental health nonprofit, says there’s a chance for New York to leverage the historic levels of funding its receiving from both the state and federal governments to rebuild the city’s approach to mental health emergencies.

Among its key recommendations are increasing funding to the emergency mental health hotline, 988, establishing a peer oversight board and developing ongoing mental health support with connections to community-based services.

Ken Zimmerman, the CEO of Fountain House, joined NY1 political anchor Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to discuss more.
