Gov. Kathy Hochul sent a letter Friday to President Joe Biden to ask for a disaster declaration in order to receive support in finding additional sites to house asylum seekers.
This comes as the Trump-era border restrictions known as Title 42 expired Thursday night.

The Legal Aid helped pave the way to establish a permanent right to shelter in the city in the 1980s.
