Gov. Kathy Hochul sent a letter Friday to President Joe Biden to ask for a disaster declaration in order to receive support in finding additional sites to house asylum seekers.

This comes as the Trump-era border restrictions known as Title 42 expired Thursday night. 

In anticipation of more migrants being sent to the city, the Adams administration has temporarily suspended portions of the “right-to-shelter” law.

Josh Goldfein, a staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society's Civil Practice, joined NY1 anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Friday to discuss the issue.

The Legal Aid helped pave the way to establish a permanent right to shelter in the city in the 1980s.
