The city took a big step forward this month in trying to go greener.
The Department of City Planning has submitted a new plan for public review, “City of Yes for Carbon Neutrality.”
All 59 community boards, five borough presidents and the City Council will have 60 days before officially deciding whether to implement the zoning proposals.
These include removing obstacles so it is easier to install solar power on buildings and facilitating the transition to electric vehicle usage.
This comes amid a citywide push to meet ambitious environmental goals like Local Law 97, which will require city buildings to reduce emissions.
Dan Garodnick, director of the Department of City Planning and chair of the City Planning Commission, joined NY1 anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Friday to talk about what exactly the plan entails.
“We want to eliminate obstacles, make government work for people,” Garodnick said. “Not stand in the way when they’re trying to make good choices for the environment.”
