Governors Island is set to get a new $700 million, 400,000 square foot campus called the New York Climate Exchange.
Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with the campus officially opening in 2028.
The ambitious project is part of a public-private partnership between the city and Stony Brook University.
The climate hub is expected to create 7,000 permanent jobs, as well as prepare the next generation for the climate challenges ahead.
This project has been billed as a key piece of Mayor Eric Adams' comprehensive climate action plan.
Clare Newman, the president and CEO of the Trust for Governors Island, sat down with Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday night to talk about what is in store for the island.
“Our next step in our journey is to make sure that Governors Island continues to expand as a resource for New Yorkers,” Newman said. “So, of course, the climate center is a huge part of that.”
