The debate over bail reform remains a key sticking point in budget negotiations in Albany.
It appears that Gov. Kathy Hochul and other state leaders are close to making changes to the state's existing bail laws to give judges more discretion.
Republican New York Assemblyman Mike Reilly supports calls for changes to bail reform, and he joined Zack Fink on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday night to discuss his stance.
Reilly’s district (62) includes several neighborhoods in central and southern Staten Island.
“You can fix this law,” Reilly said. “I’ve been championing this since 2019 when this first passed. We need a scalpel. Unfortunately, they took a hatchet, and they totally revamped the criminal justice system.”
