April is National Fair Housing Month and the city Commission on Human Rights is launching a new public service campaign to educate New Yorkers on housing discrimination.
Being denied housing because of source of income was made illegal statewide in 2008.
An example of this is when landlords or owners refuse to rent to tenants who pay with housing assistance vouchers, like the Housing Choice Voucher program, also known as Section 8, and other programs.
Jose Rios Lua, the executive director of communications and marketing for the New York City Commission on Human Rights, joined Zack Fink on "Inside City Hall" Tuesday night to talk more about housing discrimination.
"The bottom line is this source of discrimination is illegal under the New York City Human Rights Law," he said.
