John Faso, a former New York Republican congressman, told Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday that he finds the indictment charges former President Donald Trump is facing to be “very thin.”

“I’m really astonished that D.A. Bragg brought this case. I don’t think, for instance, that this case ever would have been brought if the defendant wasn’t named Donald Trump,” he said.

Faso was involved in last year’s redistricting lawsuit and efforts to help former Rep. Lee Zeldin get elected as governor.

“D.A. Bragg is stretching all of these facts to try to leapfrog this into a felony,” Faso said. “A lot of people are saying, ‘Oh, gee, Donald Trump is getting what he deserves,’ but that’s not what our justice system is supposed to be. It’s supposed to be everyone treated equally under the law.”

This, after Trump delivered remarks Tuesday night upon arriving home in Florida, hours after he pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records in a Manhattan courtroom.

Trump spent much of the speech criticizing his political opponents in New York, including Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

As Trump looks ahead to 2024, his campaign has been fundraising off the indictment, saying it has raised millions so far.
