State lawmakers released their budget counter argument earlier this week, weighing in on Gov. Kathy Hochul's long-term housing plan, which aims to produce 800,000 new units over the next decade.

Legislators pushed back against Hochul's mandates for localities. They propose creating a $500 million dollar incentive fund to award communities that meet targets.

According to lawmakers, the aggressive push for housing would exceed the creation of transportation, which would make it hard to stick to the requirement of building housing near transit hubs.

At the same time, more than 100 organizations and nonprofits backed Hochul's housing plan Thursday.
