Elected officials like Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and other advocates are criticizing the state for not partnering with the city to rebuild the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
The city has already committed to redesigning the only portion of the highway it controls — the segment that travels beneath the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
Critics note that the highway has a racist legacy, burdening nearby low-income communities with heavy traffic and air pollution that has led to higher rates of asthma.
Reynoso led a news conference on Monday calling on the state Department of Transportation to do its part in reconstructing the BQE.
And Reynoso joined Bobby Cuza on "Inside City Hall" Tuesday night to discuss all things BQE.
"It needs to be redone. There is no question about it. The infrastructure is just lapsed," Reynoso said.
During the interview, Reynoso also discussed a U-Haul driver’s deadly "rampage" in Brooklyn on Monday. One person was killed and eight others, including an NYPD officer, were injured, according to officials.
"A vehicle can be just as dangerous as a gun if in the wrong hands," Reynoso said.
