The city’s public housing agency, the New York City Housing Authority, continues to face difficult challenges without a clear timeline for resolutions.

However, over the past two years, there have been some signs of improvement.

A new report highlights the important upcoming choices NYCHA residents will face next year as they are given an opportunity to help shape the future of their apartments for the first time.

Those choices include renovating through Rental Assistance Demonstration, renovating through the new NYCHA Preservation Trust or remaining under HUD Section 9 public housing.

Victor Bach, a senior housing policy analyst at the Community Service Society of New York, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday night to discuss the report and the future of NYCHA.

"[NYCHA residents] can decide how they want their development treated in the future," Bach said. "That is very, very new, and it gives them a kind of democratic choice that they have never had before."
