Councilmember Shaun Abreu joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to discuss asylum seekers in his district, which he says has “inspired action” within his community.

The Upper West Side has hosted several drives to help asylum seekers, but Abreu said they need work.

“And this is why at the federal level, we need to expedite work permits to make sure that they can get to work right away," he said. "And we know that within minutes, within seconds of this conversation, they’re just saying, ‘councilmember, we need work,’ and we have a lot more work to do there.”

According to Abreu, the Adams administration said asylum seekers located in the Upper West Side will be sheltered there for at least a year.
