Brittany Ramos DeBarros, a community organizer and Army veteran, sat down with Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to discuss her campaign for the 11th Congressional District, which covers Staten Island and parts of South Brooklyn.
DeBarros discussed her experience growing up in a pro-military working class family and how her views changed — leading her to join an anti-war group after serving in the U.S. Army and deploying to Afghanistan.
She also explained how her campaign focuses on the needs of fellow working class community members, including tackling more large-scale issues like climate change and affordable housing.
When asked about her path to victory in a district that favored former President Donald Trump, DeBarros said residents, “feel disappointed by both parties” and her progressive agenda is resonating with voters.”
DeBarros will face off against former Congressman Max Rose in the upcoming primary election on Aug. 23.
