Daniel Alonso, a defense attorney who once served as a federal prosecutor and in the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance, joined Errol Louis on "Inside City Hall" Monday to break down a recent stabbing where a bodega worker, José Alba, and a man got into a confrontation that left the man dead.

"This case is why God created prosecutorial discretion," Alonso said. "I do not believe that the office should be pushing for a conviction of Mr. Alba."

Alonso discussed the considerations prosecutors make when handling cases like Alba's, New York's self defense laws, Mayor Eric Adams' comments, and the potential impacts a bodega workers group meeting with prosecutors tomorrow could play.
