In an effort to take on the city’s housing crisis, Mayor Eric Adams last week introduced proposed changes to the city’s zoning laws.

The zoning changes would get rid of geographic limitations for certain businesses, reduce parking requirements, loosen restrictions on affordable housing construction, and encourage more clean energy installations.

Dan Garodnick, the chair of the City Planning Commission and director of the city’s planning department, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to break down the mayor’s plan and the long term impact his administration hopes the changes could have on the city’s housing crisis.

“It’s an ambitious plan and one that we believe meets the moment that we’re in,” Garodnick said. “We’re obviously coming out of a very, very difficult couple of years for New York City. We need to jumpstart our economy, find ways to create opportunity in housing, job creation, and certainly make this a more sustainable city.”
