As the first Black mayor of New York City, David Dinkins broke barriers and inspired a new generation to imagine a brighter future. Part of what got him elected in the first place was a coalition of lawmakers and activists. Former aides, Ken Sunshine and Patrick Gaspard were with Dinkins every step of the way, from his campaign to critical roles in his administration. They both joined Errol Louis to reflect on the former mayor’s campaign, his time in office and his tough re-election fight.
