WISCONSIN — The Wisconsin Department of Justice will hold its latest "Drug Take Back Day" of the year Oct. 29.
The DOJ said removing unused and/or expired prescription drugs from homes is one way to prevent people from becoming addicted to them.
Danielle Long, with the Wisconsin DOJ, said children and young adults up to 25 are at greater risk of developing an addiction because their brains are not fully developed.
She said abuse of prescription pain killers is often a gateway to other, even harder opiates, such as heroin or fentanyl.
The Drug Take Back day, which is part of a national initiative, has collected more than one million pounds of unneeded prescriptions since it was created in 2010, according to a DOJ news release.
