Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodríguez discussed the future of transportation in the city and the efforts to transform the city into the most walkable and bike-able city in the nation.
Bike ridership has reached a new all-time high but so have cycling deaths.
Rodríguez explained how the DOT’s working to keep our cyclists safe, including installing a record number of protected bike lanes than ever before.
In response to the uptick in e-bike traffic fatalities, the department’s also launching a new education campaign on how to safely operate e-bikes.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Rodríguez spent 13 years as an educator before serving on the City Council.
He’s the first Latino commissioner for the DOT and the second person of color to serve in the position.
