Budy Garcia-Whitfield, a licensed clinical social worker with Jewish Child Care Association, marked Social Work Month with “In Focus.”
JCCA provides a safety net for families in need and is one of New York’s oldest child and family services organizations.
The nonprofit helps children and families heal physically and emotionally through compassionate, quality care.
Garcia-Whitfield discussed the work JCCA is doing and the services it provides for children and families across New York.
JCCA’s motto is repairing the world child by child and it’s now celebrating its 200th year.
Garcia-Whitfield explained how the organization has evolved over the past two centuries.
JCCA now offers mental health services, foster care and education programs, among other services.
According to newly released data from the CDC, nearly 60% of high school girls reported feeling persistently sad and 25% had made a suicide plan. That’s a 60% increase over the last 10 years and the highest rate reported during that period.
Garcia-Whitfield explained what needs to be done to reach this vulnerable population and underserved communities across our city.
