Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson joined “In Focus” to celebrate hip hop’s 50th anniversary.
Mayor Eric Adams recently announced $5.5 million in funding for the Universal Hip Hop Museum.
It will be located at the Bronx Point Development at Mill Pond Park, and will include gallery spaces, interactive exhibits and a black box theater. Gibson explained how it will cement the Bronx as a global destination for hip hop.
The museum is the only state-chartered educational museum dedicated to celebrating and preserving contributions to hip-hop music and culture. It’s also part of a $127 million investment for over 70 cultural groups across the city.
Gibson discussed what people can expect and explained the importance of passing this knowledge on to the generations to come. Fat Joe, Remy Ma and Grandmaster Flash all hail from the Bronx.
Gibson talked about the birthplace of hip hop and its evolution. She also looked ahead to the fun events lined up to celebrate hip-hop’s 50th.
There will be 50 events across the city to mark 50 years of hip hop.
