Manhattan Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal joined “In Focus” to mark Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

The disease hits close to home for Rosenthal, who lost her mother to pancreatic cancer many years back. She discussed her mother’s battle with the disease and explains why she sponsored the bill to make November Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in New York.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, the number of new pancreatic cancer cases is projected to increase by 55% from 2010 to 2030.

Rosenthal discussed what the state is doing to get the word out about early detection and stresses the importance of regular check-ups, especially as we emerge from the pandemic.
