Assemblywoman Inez Dickens joins “In Focus” with a preview of the 2022 Harlem Week.
The 48th annual celebration returns next month from Aug. 12-21. Thousands are expected to pack the streets uptown to celebrate the village of Harlem.
Harlem Week began in 1974 to encourage fellowship among Harlem New Yorkers and celebrate its rich African-American, Caribbean, Hispanic and European history.
Dickens, who represents District 70, including Harlem, El Barrio and Morningside Heights, discusses how the celebration has evolved over the years.
This year’s theme is inspiration, impact and legacy.
In addition to celebrating the history and culture of the neighborhood, Harlem Week also provides opportunities for small businesses. Dickens explains how important this is as the city recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
