In Focus begins with a one-one-conversation with Ilyasah Shabazz, the daughter of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz. Known as an African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist, Malcolm X was a prominent figure during the civil rights movement.

His wife, Dr. Betty Shabazz, also known as Betty X, was an American educator and civil rights activist. Their daughter Ilyasah is a fierce defender of her parents' legacy to this day, using her books, “Growing up X” and “Betty Before X,” to teach children about her parents' legacy.

This month marks 57 years since Malcolm X’s assassination. Ilyasah discusses that and marks the 25th anniversary of her mom’s passing. She also talks about the recently overturned convictions of her father’s alleged killers and speaks out about how the criminal justice system has failed her family.
