Eight million people have slipped into poverty in the U.S. since the pandemic began, and New York has not been left unscathed.

More than a million New Yorkers are food insecure, meaning they don't have enough food to support a healthy lifestyle.

1.4 million New Yorkers rely on emergency food relief to feed themselves and their families.

The Bronx is the hungriest borough of all. Bronx City Councilmember Vanessa Gibson joins In Focus to talk about the effects COVID-19 has had on her district, as food pantries and soup kitchens run out of resources and residents run out of options while they wait for some form of relief.

And she expresses her concern about vaccine distribution, and her hope that Bronx residents are not left behind when it comes to dispensing vaccinations, along with her efforts to convince her constituents that the vaccine is safe for everyone.
