As part of his annual report, Comptroller Stringer includes a list of recommendations, things the city can do to make the program more accessible and effective. He’s be joined by two guests who have very strong opinions on what they believe needs to be done to make M/WBE work. Reverend Jacques Andre De Graff is an activist who has fought hard for this initiative. He talks about why it matters, and how supporting women and minority owned businesses, many of which operate in their own communities, can elevate entire neighborhoods, bringing jobs and money to where they are needed most. Sulma Arzu-Brown is an author and the Director of Operations for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She has been working to get her series of books added to the curriculum of the Department of Education, and she’s going through the process of becoming M/WBE certified. She joins us to talk about how she believes the process can be made more effective not just for her, but for business owners who are part of the Hispanic community.
