LOS ANGELES — On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the Community United Methodist Church of Pacific Palisades held services of remembrance and renewal after losing their sanctuary in January's Palisades Fire.

Nearly 80% of the congregation, including Pastor John Shaver, lost their homes in the fire.

On Good Friday, parishioners walked from the church site to the ocean, pausing for scripture and reflection.

On Easter Sunday, they filled a chicken-wire cross with flowers as a symbol of hope.

Church leaders say they will rebuild using pieces of the old structure, such as tile and the charred cross, keeping faith at the center of their journey forward.
