How can you miss the giant disco ball on the Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center?

It’s the centerpiece for a summer of music, dance and more, including silent discos, featuring DJs like native New Yorker DJ CherishTheLuv. The Stuyvesant Town native feels quite at home at the performing arts complex on the Upper West Side.

What You Need To Know

  • “Summer for the City” is a performing arts festival at Lincoln Center

  • The festival runs through Aug. 10 on the Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center

  • There are hundreds of free events including music, dance, film and activities for families

“This is such a New York thing. I mean, look, we are in the middle of Lincoln Center, in like, this hub of arts and culture, and people wanting to be here in the middle of summer,” DJ CherishTheLuv said.

Lincoln Center’s “Summer for the City” has returned for its third year, offering hundreds of events over three months.

“All of our outdoor programming is free, and our indoor programming is 'choose what you pay,'” Jordana Leigh, vice president of artistic programming at Lincoln Center, said.

Leigh says this year’s theme is “Life, Liberty, and Happiness,” highlighting how active participation in the arts helps strengthen civic bonds and grow a strong community. The outdoor spaces are designed by visual director Clint Ramos, inspired by the American prairie.

“You will see beautiful parts of prairie across the campus, including we have some buffalo, and we have some bees, and wild flowers,” Leigh said.

Highlights include “Big Umbrella Day" and “The Wedding: New York’s Biggest Day,” where hundreds of couple tie the knot, social dance, musical performances and programming for families too. DJ CherishTheLuv is a big fan of all of this and being part of it.

“Being born and raised in New York City, I didn’t even realize this was a dream of mine because I didn’t think it was possible, but here we are, and I hope to see all of you on the dance floor. Hope to see you, you better be there,” DJ CherishTheLuv told NY1.
