The spirit of the holiday season was alive in the Bronx thanks to a big turkey giveaway.
Lawmakers in the borough teamed up with multiple organizations to donate Thanksgiving fixings.
"Many of our families continue to face challenges in a post-COVID world and we know many families are living below the federal poverty line," Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson said. "So, if we can do our part, partnering with incredible organizations that are providing turkeys and food and produce, then we are doing our part to give back."
About 1,000 turkeys were handed out to members of the community.
Charter, the parent company of Spectrum News NY1, was a sponsor of the event.
Joined my NE Bronx Colleagues and our Community Partners and fraternal organizations for a Thanksgiving Turkey and produce distribution at the YMCA. Grateful for the partnership to serve our residents and families of the Northeast Bronx. Happy Season of Thanksgiving. #Bronx 🦃 pic.twitter.com/F7miVRQStH
