It was day one of Fashion Week on Wednesday, and NY1's Cheryl Wills shows us the sights and highlights of Nicholas K.
Hairstylists and makeup artists were primping and prepping models for the first runway show of the fall 2016 season: Nicholas K.
The brother and sister design duo were inspired by Arcosanti, a tiny experimental town in the middle of the Arizona desert that an architect created back in the 70s by marrying architecture with ecology.
The Nicholas K collection embodies the concept of a new-age natural environment.
"What we try to design are things that incorporate things that are good for the environment," Christopher Kunz of Nicholas K said.
"We wanted to play a lot with texture because in his architecture he uses a lot of cement, but he puts texture in it," Nicholas Kunz of Nicholas K said.
The Nicholas K show was a feast for the eyes if you love the color purple.
How's this for texture? Crushed velvet that oozes purple rain. The Nicholas K collection is a win-win for fashion and Mother Nature.
Meanwhile, Ecuadorian designer Cristina Ruales keeps models on their toes with a ballet-inspired collection.
Her hashtag for fall 2016 is celebrate your individuality, and her ultra-feminine and sporty line also marries architecture with nature.
"I want to create a new kind of sexy, where we all feel very confident and sexy but in a new way, like in an easier way," Ruales said.
The designer also calls these looks indoor/outdoor — a ready to wear line that can take you from the ballpark to the ballroom.
