But if you’re one of the millions who watch Ben-Ishay on TikTok, you’re probably more used to seeing her in a vertical video, shot on an iPhone.
“I am just being me in front of my iPhone that is propped up on my water. And like, I am loving it. I so genuinely love to cook and be in the kitchen,” Ben-Ishay said. “When we have company over, that’s where I go and I just wanna cook and feed. So, you’re my guest and I’m just comfortable in my own home and it’s flowing.”
So, the two set up a phone Melissa-style and started making her cold brew maple tahini smoothie recipe.
“This is a great treat when you want something sweet and also delicious, but you don't want to have, like, a whole thing,” Ben-Ishay said.

“We opened one store in SoHo and then Union Square and then Grand Central and then Fashion District, Upper West Side, Columbus Circle, Gramercy — all the different neighborhoods,” Ben-Ishay said.
But these days, she’s doing so much more than sweet treats. Now, Ben-Ishay is chopping up viral salad recipes on social media.
To Ben-Ishay, it’s a dream that is now 2.5 million followers strong. And that’s just on TikTok. On Instagram, she has another million. But the inspiration for her food is right at home, like the salad dressing she uses every day.
“I went with my husband to visit his family for the first time,” she said. “And his mom loves to feed people like I do.”
“She put a salad on the table, like the first meal we were together, it was like iceberg lettuce, and I took a bite, and I was like, ‘What, what is this? What am I eating?’” she said.
“It was really just olive oil, lemon, white vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper. And that changed my world,” she added.
And even though she influences people around the globe, her heart is right here in the Big Apple.
“There is not much not to like about New York City. It's the best place ever,” she said. “I couldn't have done what I've done in any other city.”
