Graduate students at the University of Rochester continued to strike on Tuesday as they push for what they say is a fair process in efforts to form a union.

2. Ovid begins cleanup of building debris left by January fire on Main Street

People in the town of Ovid are working to get back to normal after a massive fire destroyed many of the buildings on Main Street in January.

3. Chobani announces plans to build $1B facility in Mohawk Valley.

Leaders announced Tuesday morning that yogurt company Chobani is building a $1 billion facility in Rome. Gov. Kathy Hochul said the new plant would create 1,000 jobs, "because they know New York is a great place to grow their business," Hochul said.

4. Pope Francis' death latest updates: Francis lies in state ahead of his funeral

Francis showed the first signs of illness round 5:30 a.m. on Easter Monday and fell into a coma an hour later, “after making a gesture of farewell with his hand” to his personal health care assistant, Massimiliano Strappetti, according to Vatican News.

5. U.S. State Department unveils massive overhaul of agency with reduction of staff and bureaus

Secretary of State Marco Rubio unveiled a massive overhaul of the State Department on Tuesday, with plans to reduce staff in the U.S. by 15% while closing and consolidating more than 100 bureaus worldwide as part of the Trump administration's "America First" mandate.

6. U.S., global economic outlook worsens in the face of Trump's tariffs, IMF says

The outlooks for the U.S. and global economies have significantly worsened in the wake of President Donald Trump's tariffs and the uncertainty they have created, the International Monetary Fund said Tuesday.

Blind dessert baker's vision has him on a path to success

In business, sometimes all it takes for success is for someone to give you a shot. That’s the philosophy of some Southern Tier restaurant owners who opened their kitchen to their new dessert chef. 

The ingredients to success often start with a dream. Becoming a dessert chef has been Chris Lomax's longtime dream. 

“Probably my favorite dessert of all time,” said Lomax, of the raspberry swirl cheesecake bars he made recently.

Lomax’s vision to become a baker began when he was a child. He remembers walking with his kindergarten teacher past this building in his hometown of Hornell.
