1. Wisconsin elections meeting turns tense during uncounted ballots discussion
A tense exchange unfolded Thursday during the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) meeting as members discussed the ongoing investigation into the now-former Madison City Clerk. Maribeth Witzel-Behl stepped down from her post on Monday after she was put on leave for failing to count nearly 200 absentee ballots in November. She didn’t inform the state’s elections commission about the oversight until after the results were certified.
2. Damian Lillard cleared of deep vein thrombosis, can resume full basketball activity
Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard has been cleared of his deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and is no longer on blood-thinning medication, the team announced on Thursday. The Bucks said he'll continue increasing his on-court basketball activity as he prepares for a return.
3. 2 people killed in FSU shooting; Police identify suspect as deputy's son
Police say two people were killed and six others were injured when someone opened fire Thursday on the campus of Florida State University. Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil identified the suspect as the son of one of his deputies, and said he allegedly used one of his parent's firearms in the shooting.
4. DHS releases document excerpts it says supports that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is MS-13 member
Repeating a disputed claim from Attorney General Pam Bondi and other Trump administration officials, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the man who was wrongly deported to El Salvador last month is a member of the MS-13 gang.
5. Hundreds gather to rally for higher education in Madison
Hundreds of teachers and students gathered at Library Mall on Thursday to rally for Wisconsin higher education. Zain Ashraf is a junior studying psychology and political science at UW-Madison. He said the changes that are being made to higher education are leaving him and his friends worried about the future.
6. Riders reflect on Bus Rapid Transit system after 6 months
Madison’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system has been operating for a little more than half a year now. Metro Transit Chief Development Officer Mick Rusch acknowledged there’s been some growing pains, and said a big part of his work is making adjustments to the system based on rider feedback over the past six months.
