As Wisconsin lawmakers prepare to draft the state’s next two-year budget, hundreds of parents and childcare providers gathered on the steps of the Capitol on Wednesday for the 2025 Child Care Advocacy Day. The event, which was organized by the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association and Wisconsin Head Start Association, called for funding to keep the Child Care Counts program going.
2. Waukesha Co. faces prosecutor shortage
According to Department of Administration numbers, Waukesha County is down at least 10 prosecutors, which are employees of the state.
3. Airports prep for 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay
Two years of work and preparation are about to come to fruition at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport. The airports in Green Bay and Appleton added additional flights specifically for fans arriving for the draft. In Green Bay, that includes flights from other NFL markets, including Los Angeles and New York, as well as division rivals such as Detroit, Chicago and Minneapolis.
4. Trump administration sues Maine over participation of transgender athletes in girls sports
The Trump administration said Wednesday it is suing Maine's education department for not complying with the government's push to ban transgender athletes in girls sports, escalating a dispute over whether the state is abiding by a federal law that bars discrimination in education based on sex.
5. Judge finds cause to hold Trump administration in criminal contempt for violating deportation order
U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg warned he could refer the matter for prosecution if the administration does not "purge" its contempt. Boasberg said the administration could do so by returning to U.S. custody those who were sent to the El Salvador prison in violation of his order so that they "might avail themselves of their right to challenge their removability."

Wisconsin native, Duke freshman Kon Knueppel to take the 1-and-done route to the NBA draft
Duke’s Kon Knueppel is heading to the NBA after one college season.
The 6-foot-7, 217-pound wing announced his decision Wednesday after a season that included him being named MVP of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament while helping the Blue Devils reach the Final Four.
The Milwaukee native graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 2024; he was considered the No. 1 high school player in the state by both 247Sports and ESPN.
As a senior in high school, Knueppel averaged 25.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game, while shooting 59.4% from the field, 39.5% from 3-point range and 84.9% from the free-throw line. He led Wisconsin Lutheran to the state championship, winning the title, after going 30-0 for the season.
