1. Trump administration extends its deadline for New York to end congestion pricing

The Trump administration today extended the deadline it set for New York to end congestion pricing, while simultaneously chastising Gov. Kathy Hochul for refusing to stop the tolling program.

In a social media post today, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the agency would “provide New York with a 30-day extension as discussions continue.”

2. New York's top court rules noncitizen voting law unconstitutional

New York state's top court put an end today to New York City's effort to empower noncitizens to vote in municipal elections.

In a 6-1 ruling, the high court said “the New York constitution as it stands today draws a firm line restricting voting to citizens.”

3. Memories of pandemic linger for city's transportation industry as recovery continues

Despite the mask-wearing, the social distancing, the subways shutting down overnight to disinfect, the back-of-bus boarding and installing of curtains to protect bus drivers during the pandemic, almost 200 MTA workers died through October 2022.

The MTA also lost $3.9 billion in 2020, with average weekday ridership dropping from about 5.5 million to around 500,000 by April 2020. NY1's Samantha Liebman took a look at how the recovery has gone since.

4. New pilot aims to curb overnight truck parking on residential streets

The city’s Department of Transportation has launched a pilot program aimed at keeping commercial vehicles off residential streets by offering overnight parking in industrial zones.

The Overnight Truck Parking pilot will introduce metered parking for large tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles in designated industrial business zones, DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said in a news release. 

5. Lander touts legal battles, progressive policies in mayoral run

With fewer than 100 days before voting begins in the New York City primary, NY1 is sitting down with Democratic candidates challenging Mayor Eric Adams.

Today, City Comptroller Brad Lander joined "Mornings On 1" to make his case to voters as he prepares to leave his current role.

6. Deputy mayor discusses transition after City Hall shakeup

New Deputy Mayor Adolfo Carrión Jr. said today that the first week for a new team of top officials in Mayor Adams' office has so far been "smooth."

Carrión, former commissioner of the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development, stepped into the role after four deputy mayors resigned last month, days after the Justice Department sought to dismiss federal corruption charges against Mayor Adams.

7. Israeli strikes across Gaza hit multiple homes, killing at least 85 Palestinians

Israeli strikes killed at least 85 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip overnight and into today, according to local health officials.

Hours later, Hamas fired three rockets at Israel without causing casualties, in the first such attack since Israel ended their ceasefire with a surprise bombardment of Gaza on Tuesday.
