1. GOP-aligned PAC reserves $29M in ads across New York

The Republican-aligned Congressional Leadership Fund is reserving $28.7 million in ads across New York state ahead of the fall elections. 

Republicans made inroads across New York in 2022, flipping a handful of congressional seats that padded their slim majority in the U.S. House. Holding onto those seats could determine which party controls the chamber next year.

2. Portion of BQE to close for repairs, DOT says

The Queens-bound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway will be fully closed for a third and final time from Saturday, June 1, to Monday, June 3, as the city makes necessary repairs to critical highway infrastructure, the Department of Transportation said.

Construction work will be begin at 2 a.m. on June 1 and will conclude at approximately 4 a.m. on June 3, according to the DOT.

3. Rangers-Panthers guide: Skating into the Eastern Conference final

There are four teams remaining in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the New York Rangers are one of them. After beating the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes, the Rangers will now take on the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference final.

4. New York senator won't face charges after he was accused of shoving an advocate

A New York state senator won't face charges after he was accused of shoving an advocate in the state capitol building last week.

Disability rights advocate Michael Carey, who filed a complaint with New York State Police after a heated exchange with state Sen. Kevin Parker turned physical, told The Associated Press that he spoke with Parker on Friday and they “resolved things in a peaceable way.”

5. Biden administration canceling student loans for another 160,000 borrowers

The Biden administration is canceling student loans for another 160,000 borrowers through a combination of existing programs.

The Education Department announced the latest round of cancellation today, saying it will erase $7.7 billion in federal student loans. With the latest action, the administration said it has canceled $167 billion in student debt for nearly 5 million Americans through several programs.

6. U.S. existing home sales drop 1.9% in April, pushed lower by high rates and high prices

High mortgage rates and rising prices continued to put a damper on the spring homebuying season last month.

Existing home sales fell 1.9% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.14 million in April from a revised 4.22 million in March, the National Association of Realtors reported today. Sales dropped across the country — down 4% in the Northeast, 2.6% in the West, 1.6% in the South and 1% in the Midwest.

7. Sean 'Diddy' Combs accused of 2003 sexual assault in lawsuit

A former model accused Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her at his New York City recording studio in 2003 in a lawsuit filed Tuesday, the latest in a series of allegations against the embattled hip-hop mogul.

Crystal McKinney said she was a successful 22-year-old model when she met Combs at a restaurant during Men’s Fashion Week in Manhattan. Combs invited her to his recording studio later that night, according to the federal complaint filed in New York City.
