Melissa McCarthy’s new film, “Superintelligence,” is a comedy that has Artificial Intelligence threatening to destroy the earth unless Carol (McCarthy), the average woman, can prove it’s worth saving.
As the ’Superintelligence’ gets to know Carol, it encourages her to find “the one that got away,” played by New Yorker, Bobby Cannavale. He says it was a new playing the love interest. “When I read the script, I thought, Oh, wow. And nobody ever asks me to be like, the romantic interest ever. I'm always like, you know, killing the romantic interest.”
Melissa McCarthy told NY1’s George Whipple that “Superintelligence” is the type of film she likes to bring to the screen. “It’s the kind of stories that that we want to tell. It's messy. It's happy. It's sad, It's bittersweet. It's scary. It's funny, and it's all of that mess kind of mixed up in one in one lump.”
“Superintelligence” marks the fifth collaboration between McCarthy and her husband, actor-director Ben Falcone. He says life on the set with his wife is fun. “You know, once in a while there could be some sort of disagreement, but it has to do with the story. To kind of figure out what's complicated about it. Why is it complicated? I just find it to be delightful and fun.”
“Superintelligence” is playing on HBO Max.
