As child centers across the city prepare to reopen today, many businesses wonder if the move can help jump start the economy or leave it in neutral.
Kathryn Wylde, chief executive of the Partnership for New York, says child care is a “top-level concern” for employers.
Millions more will be back to work by the start of the school year, but only 49% of the 1.2 million students in city public schools can be accommodated in person under social distancing.
While reopening child care centers will be a big help, only 15 kids will be allowed in a room at a given time. Wylde says the city has undertaken an effort to find more accommodations, which includes tapping nonprofits and other locations that support after school programs.
