Local officials have filed a lawsuit against Success Academy Charter Schools.
The suit, filed by Public Advocate Letitia James along with 13 families, claims the schools violate the rights of children with disabilities.
The complaint points to concerns about the Academy's disciplinary policies.
It also alleges that the schools do not provide the appropriate care for students with disabilities.
Success Academy released a statement, saying, in part, "We provide 11,000 students, including over 1,400 special needs students, with an excellent education and have thousands more students on our waiting lists. We are disappointed that these 13 families do not feel the needs of their children were met."
Success Academy is the largest charter school network in the city and houses close to 1,100 students.
