A Buffalo man has been arraigned in Buffalo court on one count of manslaughter, a class B felony.

It’s alleged that 29-year-old Jermain J. St. John of Buffalo recklessly engaged in conduct that caused serious injury to a child under his care at a home on Newburgh Avenue. The 6-year-old victim, Byron Clark, was unresponsive when he was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital where he later died, according to a statement from Erie County District Attorney John Flynn.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma, according to the statement.

St. John is scheduled to return September 25 at 11:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. His bail was set at $100,000.
