As the state and our communities move further toward re-opening, URMC officials gave some advice on how to disinfect your homes properly.
They stress using disinfectants correctly — like properly diluting bleach and making sure the disinfectant you're using is right for the surface.
If you have to make your own solution, you should use at least 70 percent alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
While officials emphasize the importance of disinfecting, they also say you don't need to over-disinfect.
"It's very important to clean and then disinfect, says Dr. Katrina Korfmacher of URMC. "I think that some people worry a lot about germs in their home and they tend to over disinfect. The CDC says you don't need to disinfect everything unless there's a sick person in your home."
And to clean your food, you should only use water or vegetable cleaner to clean fruits and vegetables.
