MTA Chairman Pat Foye announced a new “Essential Connector” app Friday morning on NY1.

The app, available now, maps out routes for essential employees and first responders commuting to and from work.

This comes following the first subway shutdown in NYC history, where trains have been closing overnight for disinfecting between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. The app will help riders navigate commutes during this period.

Should a commute last longer than an hour and 20 minutes, or go beyond two transfers, the app will connect users with for-hire vehicles.

Foye also discussed an idea being floated by the MTA that will require subway and bus riders to make reservations when the city begins to reopen.

He said while no decisions have been made, “everything’s on the table” in an effort to increase ridership while maintaining social distancing.

For now, the MTA received $3.9 billion in CARES Act funding to help fill the holes, and is requesting an additional $3.9 billion, said Foye.
