Julie Raskin and Matt Haicken were supposed to wed on Aug. 22, but coronavirus upended their plans.
So when Governor Cuomo’s executive order allowed for weddings to be performed via video conference, the two decided to wed virtually—and NY1 helped make that a reality.
Morning Anchor Pat Kiernan has been a wedding officiant with the City of New York for many years, and has done in-person weddings for NY1 viewers before. He stepped in to help the two tie the knot.
Family and friends gathered via Zoom, and some even stood outside the pair’s window with signs of well wishes.
Though a non-traditional wedding, Raskin and Haicken also wanted to acknowledge their Jewish heritage by getting married under a chuppah.
Their dog served as the ring bearer.
The two were pronounced husband and wife live on One New York Thursday morning.
