BUFFALO, N.Y. — As students head back to school for the fall, many of them are deciding whether they will get vaccinated against COVID-19.

For college students, the requirements on vaccinations vary at universities across Western New York.

For Buffalo State and University at Buffalo, a COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for students living in the dorms on campus or just attending classes in person. Students are required to have at least one dose of the vaccine by the first day of classes on Monday and must be fully vaccinated by September 27.

Masks are also required for indoor areas on campus, however, masks can be taken off outside.

At Canisius College, vaccinations are recommended, but they are not required unless the student is an athlete. Masks are required indoors and encouraged outdoors.

Niagara University is requiring at least the first dose of the vaccine by Friday if the student is living on campus or attending classes in person. Masks are required indoors until October 1 when the college says it will reassess the situation based on several factors, including whether the virus is spreading on campus.

St. Bonaventure has one of the more strict policies in the region with students being required to be fully vaccinated by the start of class on Monday if they are attending in person or living on campus. There is a religious exemption to the mandate at this school.
