NY1's weekly segment "Your Weekend Starts Now" shows entertaining picks for great things to do this weekend all around the city.

"Opus" at BAM

Thursday through Sunday at BAM, see the Australian circus troope Circa dazzle with Debussy. They perform their acrobatic feats to live music performed by France’s Debussy string quartet. The show is called "Opus." Tickets start at $25.

"I Happen to Like New York"

Thursday through Saturday night, Melissa Manchester returns to Feinsteins/54 Below with a new show called "I Happen to Like New York." She'll perform some of her most beloved hits like "Don't Cry out Loud" and will also debut new material. Tickets start at $55.


Arch Contemporary Ballet debuts a new work Manhattan Movement and Arts Center Saturday night. It's called "Chateau." Tickets start at $20.

D'Addario Performance Series

Friday night at Carnegie Hall, the D'Addario Performance Series continues with the world's largest maker of instrument strings presenting some of the best emerging classical guitar talents from around the world. See Ekachai Jearakul from Thailand and Liying Zhu from China make their debuts. The concert also supports music education. Tickets are $20.

"Guitar Mash"

Sunday afternoon at City Winery, play along with some top guitarists for Guitar Mash. It's a communal music event that brings music lovers together and raises money to support community music programs. Tickets start at $50.

"Dine Out For Heroes"

Next Monday through Friday, let's all Dine Out For Heroes. Eat out at at one of more than 50 restaurants to help raise money and awareness for injured service members. The New York Comedy Festival has teamed up withThe Bob Woodruff Foundation for the second annual event.

"Steele Dance"

Thursday night, check out Steele Dance at Gowanus Art and Production.


Thursday night through Saturday at the Irondale Center in Brooklyn, Renegade Performance Group presentes its AFROFUTURISM Series. It's an investigation of black identity in the 21st century through dance, sound and digital projections.

Sausage-Making Class at Hill Country Barbecue Market

Head to Hill Country Barbecue Market in Brooklyn. Their pitmaster, Ash Fulk, who you may remember from Top Chef, is hosting a sausage making class this Saturday, November 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person but are $75 for a pair.
