Claudine Chalfant grew up in North Carolina and attended North Carolina State University, where she was a member of the National Cheerleading Championship team, interned at a local station, and worked as a commentator on ESPN and ESPN2 for cheerleading competitions.
Claudine joined Spectrum News at the very beginning - literally! She was fortunate enough to speak the very first words on the channel when it launched as News 14 Carolina. Claudine has covered many stories throughout the years, but her favorites are those that intrinsically change lives, help people, and promote open-minded discussions: whether it be a hurricane, hog spill, presidential candidate, or sporting event.
Claudine and her colleagues received an Emmy nomination for a 30-minute special program about Hurricane Floyd’s devastating floods called “Hearts and Hands.” Claudine won an Associated Press award for her Hurricane Fran coverage.
Claudine loves to spend time with her family including her son, niece, and nephew. They spend a lot of time playing sports: the favorites are golf, baseball, and Taekwondo. In fact, Claudine started taking Taekwondo classes with her son and recently won a gold medal for sparring in a national tournament. Truly a jack of all trades, Claudine is also a private pilot, has two marathons under her belt and, as a licensed attorney for the state of North Carolina, enjoys doing pro bono work.
