The box tree moth is an invasive pest native to East Asia. They arrived here in 2021 after infested Canadian boxwood plants were shipped to seven states, including New York.

The state agriculture department says they could have also been carried by a storm from an infestation just across the border in Ontario, Canada.

Now, they're wreaking havoc on gardens and parks across the state and can potentially kill boxwood plants if left unchecked.
