The city's Department of Correction has relaunched its PAWS of Purpose Canine Rehabilitation Program on Rikers Island.
By working with rescue dogs, incarcerated people on Rikers learn about responsibility, patience, empathy, emotional resilience and life skills. At the same time, the program prepares the dogs for adoption into loving homes.
Mantat Wong, director of operations at Animal Haven, and correction officer Greg Albanese joined anchor Rocco Vertuccio on "Weekends On 1" to discuss the program.
