Animal shelters across the country and in the city are encouraging people to consider adopting or fostering a dog during the ASPCA’s “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.”

Some shelters are struggling to find homes for the dogs in their care.
Last year, nationwide, about 6.5 million animals entered shelters, according to the ASPCA, and just over 3 million of those were dogs. Just over 2 million dogs were adopted.

On “Weekends on 1” Saturday, anchor Rocco Vertuccio spoke with Valeria Caceres-Gil, senior manager of Admissions & Placement at the ASPCA Adoption Center about ways New Yorkers can foster and adopt animals in need.
