As Pride Month wraps up this weekend, NY1 is putting the spotlight on the Ali Forney Center.

The center was founded in 2002 in memory of Ali Forney — a homeless, gender-nonconforming youth — who was forced to live on the streets, where they were eventually murdered.

The center is committed to saving the lives of LGBTQ+ young people. Its mission is to protect them from the harms of homelessness and give them what they need to live independent lives.

Anchor Rocco Vertuccio spoke with Nadia Swanson, the technical assistance and advocacy director at the center, Saturday on NY1 to talk more about its year-round efforts.
