A number of New York athletes are training in the hopes of competing at the Olympic and Paralympic games in Paris this summer.

Among them is Paralympic cyclist Freddie de los Santos.

After being born in the Dominican Republic, Freddie came to the U.S. and went to City College before working as a graphic designer at NYU.

Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, he was inspired to join the Army, and served in Afghanistan where he lost his leg in the line of duty.

As part of his rehabilitation, Freddie took up paracycling, and is now an elite athlete. He represented Team USA at the 2020 games in Tokyo, where he anchored the mixed relay and took home the bronze medal.

NY1 anchor Stef Manisero spoke to Freddie about his story, and his goal of competing at the upcoming games.
