Memorial Day weekend kicks off the beach season in the city. All of the city's beaches opened for swimming on Saturday.

Beaches are open through Sept. 8. During beach season, lifeguards are on duty daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The start of beach season comes as the city is implementing new lifeguard regulations for city pools.

Anchors Rocco Vertuccio and Shannan Ferry spoke with Sue Donoghue, the commissioner of the City Department of Parks and Recreation, Saturday morning on NY1 about the unofficial start to summer.
